Conditional Access System - CAS |
| |
| |
Conditional Access System (CAS) is a method by which a broadcast feed is encoded by an algorithmic logic through encoders, which renders the signal unintelligible.
A conditional access system is one in which television channels are scrambled and encrypted so as to prevent unauthorized viewing. Scrambling, as the term suggests is a process in which the picture is altered in such a way that it is impossible to watch that particular channels.
Encryption is a process by which data is transmitted along with the video signal. This data can be used to control the subscriber's access to any channel. If a viewer subscribes to a particular channel, the signal is descrambled with no perceivable defects in sound or picture quality.
